The Cornea Society Annual Scientific Meeting arranged in conjunction with the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) as the Fall Educational Symposium (formerly the Federated Corneal Societies) is held immediately prior to the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. When possible, the Scientific Program of the Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Group (OMIG) is held immediately preceding the Federated Societies Symposium. The Castroviejo Medalist Lecture is delivered during the Cornea Society Symposium as part of the AAO meeting. Additionally, the Society sponsors a number of other symposiums at ASCRS Symposium, International Congress of Ophthalmology and the World Ophthalmology Congress. The Cornea Society sponsors the World Cornea Congresses that are held approximately every 5 years and highlights the progress that has been made in both clinical and research endeavors of the international corneal community. World Cornea Congress I was organized by J. Harry King, MD, in Washington, DC in 1968 prior to formation of the Society. World Cornea Congress II was held in Washington, DC and was the first of the congresses to be sponsored by the Society. World Cornea Congress III was also held in Washington, DC at the Mayflower Hotel in 1988 under the able direction of H. Dwight Cavanaugh, MD, PhD, and Michael A. Lemp, MD. The most recent meeting, World Cornea Congress V was held in Washington, DC in 2005 under the leadership of Drs. Edward Holland and Mark Mannis.
